The former Bidvest Steiner employee established Rudi’s Pest Control and Mini Renovations in 2019 and worked from one of the vacant rooms in his home but later built the headquarters composing of office space and storerooms for the storage of the heavy and potentially dangerous equipment and pesticides used in the field in Windhoek, Olympia.

The small company manages to flourish in a competitive industry by identifying the needs of their clients as well as the gaps in the market and filling the gap.

It has managed to do in regard to the nationwide termite problem and has attempted to fill the gap by developing a termite extermination trailer that is fully equipped with all things required to exterminate termite colonies of various sizes.

The termite extermination trailer is the first of its kind in Namibia. “We have congested all the necessary equipment necessary for termite extermination into one single trailer for mobility and convenience, which is also the first of its kind in Namibia,” said Le Roux.

With the company being the only one to house termite extermination equipment, they annually offer nationwide termite inspections. This is done according to a schedule, allotting them to travel to various regions and perform both household and commercial termite inspection.

Le Roux also explained to Careers that the employees regularly have to prove their extermination skills through regular renewal of their pest control licenses as a form of quality insurance.

Additionally, the company also offers renovation services. The offering of this service came about after Le Roux gained experience in house renovations following his experience in the renovation business with a good friend.

Services

“The services we offer complement each other well, because when we go out to exterminate pests, we may come across something that needs repairing and in that manner we become a one-stop shop for our customers. We kill and we fix,” Le Roux said.

The renovation service is limited to small jobs such as quick plumbing services to fix leaks.

Unlike the pest control services, the company’s mini renovations are limited to the capital city as it is easy and more efficient considering the potential need for additional products that can easily be found in the city.

In spite of the troubles that come with newly establishing a company, Rudi’s Pest Control and Mini Renovations currently has two branded company vehicles that are utilised for providing services to people in and outside of Windhoek.

The vehicles are used for various extermination trips and depending on the needs of the customer, the famous termite trailer can be found trailing behind it to the far north or the far south.

“We offer our pest control services nationwide. We recently came from the southern border and stopped in Mariental on our way back to offer our services there as well,” said second in command Nico van Rooi.

The group of killing fixers have left a mark nationwide and continue to do so through their work and liaison with companies of various sizes, industries and towns.

With extermination of pest being an unexpected need for many, the company has built relationships with several business to ensure their spaces are kept free of pests and to avoid an impromptu need of pest control services.
