Big walk for little warriors
In support of cancer patients
The Lions Club, in partnership with the Cancer Association of Namibia in the Erongo region, is gearing up to host an awareness walk for children battling cancer.
The coastal community is invited to participate and turn up in great numbers at an awareness walk for children battling cancer.
The Lions Club, in partnership with the Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN) in the Erongo region, is organising the event on 24 February.
David Koch, the vice president of the Walvis Bay Lions Club, emphasised the importance of raising awareness about childhood cancer.
“Cancer knows no age limits; it can affect children just as much as adults. Parents must remain cautious for early signs of cancer, including bruises, prolonged fever, bone pain, and unusual lumps or swelling.”
Koch gave the assurance that all the money would be donated to CAN Erongo to support their vital work in combating childhood cancer.
Jonathan Wilsnach, the secretary of the Lions Club, acknowledged the community effort behind the event, with several local businesses contributing refreshments. “Let us join hands in raising awareness and showing support for children battling cancer. We encourage parents to bring their children along, as the awareness campaign is specifically tailored to them. Children participating in the walk will have the opportunity to engage in various activities and win prizes.”
The walk will commence at the Lions Club, extending to the Lagoon area, starting at 09:00 in Walvis Bay. Participants can choose between a 2.5-kilometer walk or a 5-kilometer walk.
In Henties Bay, the walk will kick off at the SPAR parking lot at 09:00, and in Swakopmund, participants will gather at the Lions Club and start walking at 08:30. The entry fee is N$20 for adults and free for children. Registration for the event will take place on the day of the walk at the starting points.
