The vice chairperson of Blue Girls Netball Club, Eddy Angula, has hailed the handing over of netball gear and equipment to Blue Girls Netball Club as a momentous occasion.

“We proudly introduce a new chapter to Swakopmund’s sporting scene. The inception of netball under the banner of Blue Girls Netball Club marks a significant step towards fostering inclusivity within our community through the love of sport,” Angula said.

He handed over a Wassa Space Marker Set (40), agility hurdles (5), water bottles (10), a water bottler carrier, two sets of Wassa netball bibs (seven each), a Medalist Agility Trainer, and Gilbert Eclipse Netballs (5) to the club, which hosted trials from 13 March 2024 to Thursday, at the Mondesa Stadium.

Angula announced the appointment of Melvin Arnold as the head coach of the newly formed team.

“He is entrusted with steering the Blue Girls Netball Club towards both individual and collective success. Under his guidance, we are confident that our players will flourish and achieve remarkable feats on and off the court.”

According to Angula, the exco of the club allocated N$6 000 towards training equipment and gear.

“This was done to ensure our team is fully equipped to partake in upcoming tournaments and the forthcoming Erongo Netball League, slated to commence next month. The intention is to mitigate some of the social ills facing our community by making the ladies’ sports active and keeping them off the streets.”

He further wished everybody embarking on this journey the best for the trials ahead.

“Whether seasoned players or newcomers, your participation not only enriches the Blue Girls Netball Team but also contributes to the fabric of our community. This platform serves as a canvas to paint your stories, and most importantly, the story of the Blue Girls Netball Team. We urge you to make us proud and become ambassadors not just for our club but for the wider community as well.”

The club envisions a future where support for netball and soccer intertwines, mobilising the supporters to rally behind both sports codes.

“Let us write a new chapter in Swakopmund’s sporting legacy,” Angula urged.
