The Swakopmund Mayoral Development Fund donated an amount of N$10 000 each to 20 schools in the town.

The donation, totaling N$200 000, is to support the ministry of education, arts, and culture in ensuring that children learn and develop in a conducive environment - enabling them to achieve success and end poverty in Namibia.

Swakopmund mayor Dina Namubes said the assistance was not intended to benefit only one child but to contribute to the learning and development of learners at various schools. "It is important to support the schools in town to assist such institutions in delivering excellent services to the learners."

The mayor also applauded teachers for their hard work and dedication to their craft.

In the past, the council donated N$1 000 annually as a contribution towards annual prize-giving events. "The council determined that it will no longer be able to increase the financial support for yearly awards ceremonies and decided to boost the amount to the sum of N$10 000 due to the rise in the number of difficulties faced by schools," explained Namubes.

The director of education for the Erongo region, Enfriede Stephanus, expressed her gratitude towards the Swakopmund municipality for their constant support of the education ministry and the directorate. “Many schools are often in dire need of supplies and materials. The funds will definitely be put to good use.”

The schools are expected to submit a quotation amounting to the N$10 000 donated for developing different departments.
