ASPIRATIONS: One of the key issues impeding the realisation of Namibia’s logistics hub aspirations has been the inflexible approach of some cross-border regulatory authorities. According to the Namibian Ports Authority (Namport), the indiscriminate implementation of the bond requirement, the introduction of new regulations on vehicle imports, and the movement of reefer cargo through the corridor have raised concerns within the industry. Reefer and car imports through the Authority’s ports declined during 2023, and this had a negative impact on exports and the wider logistics chain. Photo Otis Daniels
