Forbes re-elected as head of mayors' forum

Nikanor Nangolo
Walvis Bay Mayor Trevino Forbes has been re-elected as president of the Namibia National Mayors Forum (NNMF) during their recent annual general meeting in Lüderitz.

The NNMF was formed in 2003 in Walvis Bay to facilitate liaison between local authorities and aims to identify solutions to problems commonly faced by them.

The forum also aims to optimize the economic development and potential with special emphasis on tourism and investment in Namibia.

Speaking at the occasion, Forbes said the forum reflects a shared commitment towards a common goal for positive change. “During my previous term, I encouraged fellow mayors to form mayoral relief funds to support social initiatives that benefit locals. This would reduce the over-reliance on the government to provide a safety net for vulnerable residents.

He added that his vision is to foster unity and cooperation between Namibian mayors for the greater good of our communities.

The forum recently donated N$200 000 to the Katutura Intermediate Hospital to aid its operations. Forbes added that the forum will look at other worthy causes to support in the future and depending on the availability of funds.
