Hotto remembers his roots
Making a difference
The coastal-born soccer player who is now plying his trade in South Africa continues to make a difference in the community he grew up in.
The Deon Hotto Foundation donated 150 sanitary packs, power tools, and equipment to Coastal High School in Swakopmund.
Hotto also donated a framed soccer jersey - valued at over N$15,000 - to inspire the next generation of young talents. The school holds special significance for the foundation as it played a crucial role in nurturing Hotto during his formative years from grade 8 to 10. Hotto (born 29 October 1990 in Swakopmund) plays for the South African outfit Orlando Pirates and the Namibian national team.
“Today's donation demonstrates our unwavering commitment to creating a brighter future for our children. Let us remember that our collective efforts can drive lasting change. Together, we will continue to do more for the underprivileged children in our community,” said Carl Pesat, the chairperson of the Deon Hotto Foundation.
Pesat also announced that the foundation, which has been supporting underprivileged children and communities through sports development since its establishment in 2018, had decided to postpone the charity cup tournament in Omaruru. “The postponement is necessary due to the extensive preparations needed for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and Hotto's commitments to club activities in December.”
Pesat added that the foundation is preparing to officially launch and expand its corporate social initiatives in 2024. “Our mission is to support underprivileged children and communities through sports development. We will provide more information and details about these exciting developments soon.”
The Deon Hotto Foundation has also made donations and provided support to sports clubs, old age homes, and safety houses. The foundation also hosts the Deon Hotto Charity Cup. The competition saw 16 soccer and 10 netball teams from Karibib, Omaruru, and Walvis Bay competing at the Mondesa Stadium in Swakopmund from 23 to 25 June.
