NamPower last Friday handed over infrastructure and equipment to eight schools in the Oshikoto Region as part of its social corporate responsibility commitment.

Simeon Amunkete, senior manager of human capital and chairperson of the NamPower advisory committee, said such initiatives play an important role in their business as it is a tangible reflection of their corporate vision, mission, mandate and values.

He added that each day, their efforts to realise their mission of “providing innovative electricity solutions in an evolving market which satisfy the needs of our customers, fulfil the aspirations of our staff and the expectations of our stakeholders in a competitive, sustainable and environmentally-friendly manner” can be seen in the way NamPower looks to create shareholder value.

“The social impact of these projects has a significant benefit to our learners and educators by enabling them to attend daily classes in a highly conducive and pleasant learning environment that bodes well for their future development and prospects,” he said.

According to Amunkete, education is the centrepiece of any empowerment initiative and forms the basis of growth and development of communities and the nation at large.

Learners’ safety and conducive school facilities and infrastructure are prerequisites to producing a good schooling experience as these encourage better attendance, he said.

“We believe learners will make full use of these new facilities to improve their education and contribute to the country’s economic emancipation by living full, rewarding lives in the future. In the same vein, we are also confident that learning will become more exciting with these donations,” he said.

Million-dollar investment

The NamPower Foundation assisted kindergartens and schools through infrastructural development and renovations, the donation of computers and the provision of stationery and furniture. All 14 regions of the country have benefitted from the support channelled towards the education sector thus far.

Through these projects, NamPower has invested over N$3.15 million.

Amunkete wished all learners success in the upcoming examinations and urged every community stakeholder to throw their weight behind the learners in this important time of their academic lives.

“I want to say that we will be waiting for great achievers to come out of these schools. When that eventually happens, when it is no longer wishes or dreams, please remember your community and come back to lend a hand in whatever will still be needed in that time,” he said.

As part of the donation, Johannes Amwaala Primary School received toilets, Okalumbu Combined School science equipment and Onuuya Primary School nine ablution facilities, while Ondumetana Primary School had its school fenced.

Other beneficiaries are Princess Diana Kindergarten, which received five office chairs, five office tables, five cupboards and 25 mattresses for boarding learners. Onankali South Combined School received science equipment, Natangwe Uugwanga Junior Primary School ablution facilities and Enongo Day Care Centre toilets, an office, two classrooms and a storeroom.
