NamPower invests in school project
Educational infrastructure
"We need to preserve our educational infrastructure, as it is important and cheaper to preserve than to destroy and start from scratch," said chairperson of the NamPower Foundation Advisory Committee, Simeon Amunkete
He made this statement after NamPower made a significant donation to one of the region's oldest and most historic schools, the Usakos Secondary School.
On 20 October 2023, NamPower handed over the revamped school infrastructure, as well as 50 matrasses to encourage an enabling environment for the learners to excel in their studies.
The project involved the painting of the girls' and boys' hostel as well as the kitchen, and dining hall, and the donation of 50 mattresses to the school.
According to Amunkete, “education is one of the important sectors that will empower our future generations while meeting government halfway in the improvement of school infrastructure. Hence, for this project, NamPower has invested close to N$500 000.”
NamPower, through its foundation, has and continues to support worthy projects countrywide, stating that education is at the forefront of this foundation and receives the majority of funds allocated. "Therefore NamPower has undertaken to continue investing in the socio-economic development of communities."
The foundation has been assisting education through infrastructural development and renovations, the donation of computers, and the provision of stationery and furniture to schools and kindergartens. All 14 regions have benefitted from the support channelled towards this sector thus far.
Teachers and members of the school board worked towards restoring the school to its former glory by improving the environment to be encouraging and to contribute to a comprehensive educational environment for the learners.
Learners were encouraged to safeguard the buildings at all times, especially against vandalism and to ensure that the facility is well maintained so that it can serve the current and future learners.
