RMR enhances means of communication at Gobabeb
Field safety
RMR donated two mini satellite phones for use by students who are doing field work at the Gobabeb Training and Research Centre.
Deep Yellow Limited, in collaboration with its subsidiary Reptile Mineral Resources and Exploration (Pty) Ltd. (RMR), donated two Garmin inReach Mini 2 mini satellite phones to the Gobabeb Training and Research Centre (GTRC).
The contribution, valued at N$17 680, aims to enhance field safety for students at GTRC who have to operate in remote environments. The centre, a renowned institution for desert research, is located 90 km east of Walvis Bay. RMR’s contribution not only addresses immediate safety concerns but also demonstrates the company’s dedication to corporate social responsibility and community support.
RMR senior geologist, Dr. Katrin Kaerner, said that the donation of the Garmin inReach Mini 2 satellite phones underscore the company’s commitment to safety.
“We recognise the challenges faced by individuals working or studying in such remote regions, and this initiative ensures that those in the field have access to reliable communication tools. Reliable communication to ensure the safety of our stakeholders is of huge importance, and we are proud to support the vital work conducted by the GTRC.”
Kaerner explained that the Garmin inReach Mini 2 radios are equipped with the latest technology.
“It allows users to send messages to cell phones, post updates on social media, and share their precise locations. Most importantly, in the event of an emergency, users can activate an interactive SOS feature, instantly alerting a 24/7 staffed emergency response coordination centre.”
