Salt Conference heads to Swakopmund
The 2023 International Salt Conference is scheduled for 6 to 9 November at the Strand Hotel in Swakopmund. This marks the event's debut in Africa and features a special tour of lead sponsor Walvis Bay Salt's solar sea salt operations in sub-Saharan Africa.
IMFORMED director Ismene Clarke's visit to Walvis Bay Salt Holdings and Swakopmund in February 2023 paved the way for announcing the Salt Forum 2023 in this unique location. Salt Forum is the only global conference bringing together key salt industry players for networking and discussions on market trends and developments.
Over 100 participants are expected, representing various salt supply chain aspects.
The conference offers expert presentations, networking opportunities, a Desert Adventure & Dinner, and an exclusive visit to Walvis Bay Salt's salt operations, known for being one of the world's largest solar evaporation mines.
The idea to choose Namibia as the venue came from Andre Snyman, managing director of Walvis Bay Salt, during his attendance at IMFORMED's Salt Forum in Hamburg in November 2022. IMFORMED specialises in organizing conferences and conducting market research for the global industrial minerals sector. With salt being a critical industrial mineral, with a global production of 335 million tons and 50 million tons exported by over 50 countries, it's fitting to have a well-organised international conference as a hub for networking and knowledge sharing. Namibia, a major salt exporter with 800 000 tons annually, is a perfect choice for this event.
