Namibian models makes it to New York
Namibian models Janine Esterhuizen and Tharine Bergh are excited about their future in modelling.
Janine Esterhuizen (16) and Tharine Bergh (21) recently graced the catwalks of New York with their unique Namibian features.
Esterhuizen, who is a Windhoek High School learner, took part in the International Modelling and Talent Association (IMTA).
She hails from the training grounds of Figures Models. Esterhuizen took part in the age groups of 16–18 and won the following medals in the respective categories: TV beauty (fourth place), fashion print (fourth place), runway (fourth place), and team fashion, which was a group award (first place).
Currently, there are ten agencies that are interested in presenting Esterhuizen with modelling contracts. According to Esterhuizen, the opportunity was a real experience for her, and she hopes to make modelling her career.
Unforgettable experience
Bergh also took part in IMTA and built her modelling roots at Figures Models in South Africa and Namibia. The young talent attended Elnatan Private School and is currently completing her studies in somatology at the Isa Carstens Academy in Stellenbosch.
Bergh started her career as a model three years ago at Windhoek Fashion Week 2021 and 2022. At IMTA, she took part in the team fashion category, and placed first in the competition. Currently, 13 modelling agencies are interested in giving her a contract.
"It was an unforgettable experience, and I’m excited about what the future holds as a professional model," she said.
