Usakos welcomes new CEO, Lesley Goreseb

Incoming CEO

The Usakos Town Council has announced the appointment of Lesley Goreseb as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Goreseb brings over 23 years of experience in local authority management to his new role. His career includes a significant tenure as the senior Economist at the National Planning Commission (NPC) under Namibia's first President, Sam Nujoma. Following that, he managed Local Economic Development and Corporate Services at the Okakarara Town Council for eight years. Goreseb also served as a National Executive Member of the Namibian Association of Local Authority Officials (NALAO) and as chairperson of the Erongo Region within the same association.

Most recently, Goreseb was the CEO of the Karibib Town Council, a position he held for nearly ten years, split into two five-year terms. His move to Usakos marks a new chapter as he signs a five-year contract with the Usakos Town Council.

Goreseb expressed his appreciation for the appointment, noting that his resignation from Karibib at the end of November last year was due to personal reasons and a desire to apply his expertise in a neighbouring town. He highlighted the similarities between Karibib and Usakos, both of which are part of the OKULAC (Karibib-Usakos-Omaruru) agreement, a collaborative effort to develop the three towns within the same region.

“The challenges are similar in both towns,” Goreseb explained. “While my departure from Karibib was due to personal reasons, it also presented an opportunity to apply my experience in Usakos. I view it as a chance to continue contributing to regional development.”

Goreseb emphasized his goal to attract private sector investment to Usakos, focusing on industrial and logistical development. He aims to create employment opportunities and stimulate economic growth, which, in turn, will support housing development. Goreseb highlighted that while there are ongoing projects such as infrastructure upgrades and road improvements, his primary focus will be on fostering industrialization and investment.

“My approach will prioritize creating an investment-friendly environment, particularly in logistical areas, to generate employment before addressing housing challenges,” he stated. “Ongoing projects will complement this vision, but the core objective is to drive economic growth and create job opportunities.”
