Vivo Energy fuels Blue Waters

Jesse Kauraisa
Vivo Energy Namibia yesterday announced a sponsorship of fuel worth N$150 000 to Blue Waters Football Club for the 2023/24 Debmarine Namibia Premiership season.

The fuel company said it was driven by its corporate social responsibility and the fact that Blue Waters had written an appealing proposal to lure them into the deal.

Blue Waters will be fuelling up at the company’s service stations countrywide for the rest of the season.

“Vivo Energy is eager to support uplifting programmes because we see it as a greater good for the country.

“We know that sport contributes to social aspects with things like keeping the youth off the streets. Today, we have listened to the call of Blue Waters Football Club because their proposal spoke to our element of corporate social responsibility,” Vivo Energy’s Fernando Somaeb said.

In return, both parties agreed that the club will be renamed Vivo Energy Blue Waters FC, while the sponsor's branding will appear on their gear for the season.

Equal benefit

Established in 2011, Vivo Energy is the company behind the Shell and Engen brands across many African markets.

The company sources, distributes, markets and supplies high-quality fuels and lubricants through service stations and directly to commercial customers.

Blue Waters chairman Robert Shimoshili commended the company for the sponsorship, and said the helping hand will come in handy for the team this season.

He added that he hopes the two parties will equally benefit from the deal.

Blue Waters play their first league match against Okakarara Young Warriors on Saturday at the Vineta Sports Stadium in Swakopmund.
