Walvis Bay to host 2024 Saimsa Games

The Municipality of Walvis Bay is excited to announce that it will host the 18th edition of the Southern African Inter-Municipal Association Games (SAIMSA) 2024.

These are premier sporting event that takes place annually and brings together municipalities from across the Southern African with the aim to foster opportunities for social interaction, encourage physical activity and sportsmanship.

The 2024 SAIMSA games, which were officially launched on 26 July 2024, under the theme ‘SADC local authorities' employee wellness, enhanced through sports and recreation’ are set to take place from 22 to 27 September 2024 in Walvis Bay.

The event will see participation from municipalities across Southern Africa, each bringing their best athletes to compete in various sports codes including, Soccer, Netball, Volleyball, Snooker/Pool, Darts, Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Road Running, Tug of War, Fishing/Angling, Owela/Stone Games, Ring Board, Athletics, Golf and an Aerobathon. The participating countries will include, Eswatini, Lesotho, Botswana and Namibia, bringing together over 1500 participants.

The games will take place at various venues, including the Jan Wilken, Narraville and Kuisebmund Stadiums as well as at venues in Swakopmund. In addition to the sporting events, the games will serve an opportunity for athletes to not only demonstrate their skills but also for communities to engage in friendly competition and cultural exchange, while local businesses can expect to benefit from the economic spin offs.

The Municipality has been working diligently to ensure that the event will be a resounding success, while preparations have been made to accommodate the influx of the visitors. The Municipality is committed to providing a memorable experience for all participants and visitors, highlighting Walvis Bay’s status as a leading and favourable destination for regional events.
