Walvis Bay Yacht Club to host sailing nationals
Remaining class championships in December
The Laser and Junior National Championship will take place on 26 and 27 August in Walvis Bay.
The Namibia Sailing Association (NSA) will host the Laser and Junior Nationals on 26 and 27 August at the Walvis Bay Yacht Club. The first race will commence shortly after the skipper’s meeting at 09:00.
Defending champion Susan Steyn retained her NSA Laser Nationals title for a second consecutive year in 2022.
The chairperson of the NSA, Lauren Davidson, explained that the Laser is a monohull, single-handed boat.
"This year’s Laser and Junior Nationals are proudly sponsored by Catamaran Charters, who have provided a generous sum of money to boost and support these national regattas. The prize-giving ceremony for the sailing event will be held on 27 August after the last race of the day. The remaining class championships will take place in December," she said.
Davidson added that the sailing events have taken place annually for well over two decades, bringing Namibian sailors from various regions of the country to compete in Walvis Bay.
"Walvis Bay is the sought-after destination for sailing in Namibia. This is attributed to its protected lagoon, which creates flat water and consistent wind conditions, not to mention the excellent facilities and support provided by the Walvis Bay Yacht Club".
