Young Citizens Green Economy Conference Registration Now Open
The Leos of Walvis Bay are calling all youth between 15 and 24 years old to register for their Young Citizens Green Economy Conference on September 13 and 14 at the Narraville Community Hall.
This is a unique opportunity to unite with other young leaders and students from across the coast to explore innovative ideas and solutions for a more sustainable future.
Sponsored by the Municipality of Walvis Bay through the Walvis Bay Youth Climate Action Fund, this dynamic event will feature workshops, discussions, and engaging activities focused on promoting the green economy and climate action.
The conference kicks off on Day 1 with registration, a welcome breakfast, and icebreaker activities, setting the stage for the opening ceremony. Participants will then dive into an interactive session that unpacks the concept of the green economy, featuring polls and quizzes to spark thought-provoking discussions. The morning continues with team-building activities, followed by a creative workshop focused on upcycling and DIY projects using recycled materials. A session on time management will help young leaders optimize their efforts toward sustainable goals. The day will culminate with the Green Innovation Challenge, where participants will collaborate to design eco-friendly products or solutions, with a chance to present their ideas and compete for prizes. The day will conclude with networking, fun games, and an opportunity to connect with other Youth Climate Fund City programs via Zoom.
On Day 2, participants will meet at the Walvis Bay Civic Centre for a parade through the town, showcasing their commitment to a greener future. The morning agenda includes interactive sessions on sustainable living tips and a welcoming address from the Regional Lions Indaba via Zoom. Hands-on eco-challenge activities will follow, providing practical experience in sustainable practices. After lunch, participants will engage in "Green Economy Jeopardy" and other fun, competitive activities to reinforce the knowledge gained. The afternoon will be dedicated to developing actionable plans for green community projects, with teams presenting their ideas and competing for prizes. The conference will conclude with a closing ceremony summarizing key takeaways and distributing certificates of participation.
The Leos added that this conference is not just an event—it's a movement. Aimed at educating and empowering young citizens, the program will provide a deep dive into the principles of the green economy and sustainable practices, offering hands-on experience through interactive sessions, workshops, and community activities.
Spaces are limited; to register, send your email address to 081597760, and the registration form will be sent.
