The second edition of the Deon Hotto Charity Cup is scheduled for June in Omaruru.
The Deon Hotto Foundation announced that the second edition of the Deon Hotto Charity Cup 2024 will be hosted in Omaruru from 28 June to 30 June.
Carl Pesat, the chairman of the Foundation, made the announcement on 19 April and encouraged teams to register for the competition.
The foundation visited Omaruru and handed over netball and soccer team kits, a laptop, and much-needed stationary supplies valued at N$30 000 for the learners of Paheye Primary School. Hotto also donated a soccer jersey to inspire the next generation of young talent.
This institution holds special significance as it played a pivotal role in nurturing Sasha Hotto, the wife of Deon, during her formative years from grades 1 to 7.
“Today’s donation demonstrates our unwavering commitment to creating a brighter future for our underprivileged children and to capacitate the school’s administration. Let us remember that our collective efforts can drive lasting change and inspire.
“Together, we can do more for the underprivileged children in our communities,” said Pesat, who also held consultations with community and governance leaders to create awareness of the upcoming planned tournament.
Since its establishment in 2018, the Deon Hotto Foundation has donated and supported sports teams, old-age homes, and houses of safety. Born on 29 October 1990 in Swakopmund, Hotto is a midfielder for the South African outfit Orlando Pirates and the Namibian national team. His salary makes him one of the highest-paid football players in Namibia.
The inaugural Deon Hotto charity cup saw 16 soccer and 10 netball teams from Karibib, Omaruru, and Walvis Bay compete at the Mondesa Stadium in Swakopmund from 23 to 25 June 2023.
Black Diamond defeated Swakopmund Secondary School (SSS) 39-34 in the netball final. The champions scooped N$3 000, and the runners-up pocketed N$1 800. Both teams also received Deon Hotto Foundation playing kits.
The soccer finals saw Ama-Tuks defeat Square 7 1-0. Simaneka Kambungu scored the winner.
The champions pocketed N$8 000, and the runners-up earned N$5 000. Both teams received Deon Hotto playing kits.
