FNB July Handicap expected to thrill
On Saturday, the FNB July Handicap will showcase 17 horse racing categories at the Okahatjipara Turf in Okondjatu.
About 95 horses and 30 jockeys will take part in the races, offering an incredible spectacle for spectators to enjoy.
The horses represent about 20 horseracing clubs, with some bred in Namibia and others in South Africa.
Strong support
The event is made possible by the generous sponsorship of First National Bank, with a substantial prize pool of N$260 000 up for grabs.
The sponsorship highlights the growth and significance of horse racing, which is one of the oldest and fastest-growing sports in the country, said Gordon Pokolo, FNB manager for sponsorship and promotions.
Big prizes and attractions
The race of the day, known as the 'Big Pot', will undoubtedly be the main attraction. As a prominent voice in Namibian horse racing, Dico Tjombe, has said, this race separates the men from the children and is not for the faint-hearted.
Big household names in Namibian horse racing, such as Visigoth, Stalile, French Leave, Time Master, La Luvia, Able Surprise, Chief Helmet, Imperial Ruby, Rose Willow, and Don Piero, will compete for the impressive prize of N$40 000.
The gates will open at 06:00, with the first race scheduled to start at 10:00.
