Jensen and Liebenberg on top of their game

Tielman van Lill
Bergran Jensen and Courtney Liebenberg on Saturday won the elite and under-23 categories of the second leg of the Nedbank Cross Country (XC) Championships series at the IGJ Trails in Kleine Kuppe.

Jensen scooped up the first place in 1 hour 17 minutes and 48 seconds while Liebenberg secured her first win of the 2022 XC Championships in 1:19:00. Xavier Papo (1:19:41) came second after Jensen with Heinrich Kohne third in 1:22:44.

Monique du Plessis with 1:19:36 on the clock ended 36 seconds after Liebenberg in second position to force the sub-veteran Nicola Fester in to third place with 1:21:56 on her time sheet.

Due to illness Liebenberg did not participate in the first Nedbank XC leg.

“I won today after a long battle when I got sick the day before the Cape Town Cycling Tour in March. My fitness is coming back slowly but surely, one day at a time,” she said.

Mariske Strauss won the elite women's section with the first XC leg while Monique du Plessis came second and Nicola Fester third. Alex Miller over powered the section for elite men with the first leg in a blistering 1:39:32. Miller is currently in Albstadt, Germany, racing with Team TrekVaude.
