Kudus teach students a lesson
Rugby feast at the coast
Namibian Rugby Union (NRU) action continued with a feast of highly entertaining matches played at the Tamariskia sports grounds in Swakopmund.
The FNB Kudu Rugby Club premier league team continued their winning ways with another convincing victory over a visiting Unam premier league team. The Kudus had a storming game and defeated the reigning Namibian Rugby Union premier league champions 20 - 5 in a tough but cleanly contested game.
Kudus set the pace, dictated matters upfront with a solid performance by their forwards and scored three tries against the one recorded by Unam. Left wing Aston Mukwiilongo crashed over for the first try on behalf of Kudus (5-0). Flyhalf Kyle Wentzel missed the conversion. Mukwiilongo also converted a penalty and made the score 8-0 in favour of Kudus at halftime.
Second row Tertuis Arangies touched down for the second try for Kudus when play resumed (13 -0). Replacement scrumhalf Rayton Paulse then dived over for third and final try on behalf of Kudus. Fullback Loyd Jacobs added the conversion (20-0).
Left wing Shareave Titus touched down for the first and only try on behalf of the visiting students (20-5). Flyhalf Alcino Isaacs missed the conversion.
Unam II vs Kudu Rugby Club II
Unam handed the defending NRU Reserve league champions Kudus II a second successive defeat since the beginning of the season. The students put on a fine display in their 28-3 victory over the coastal side.
Flyhalf Giovanni Izaaks converted a penalty for the first and only points on behalf of Kudus. From then it was one way traffic. Flyhalf Rudi Pretorius converted a penalty for Unam (3-3). Inside centre Keanan Januarie crashed over for the first try in the match on behalf of Unam (8-3). Pretorius added the conversion (10-3). He also converted a penalty (13-3).
Outside centre Tonderai Nduzo scored a second try for Unam (18-3), converted by Pretorius (20-3). Pretorius was once again on target with a successful penalty conversion (23-3) and in doing so, he extended the lead enjoyed by Unam to a massive 20 points.
Right wing Vomembo Shipepo had the final say when he touched down for the third try for Unam. Pretorius missed the conversion
Unam vs Kudu Bokkies
The Unam Ladies team recorded a hard-earned 19-10 win over a stubborn Kudu Bokkies team.
Queen visited the try line on behalf of the Bokkies for the first point on the scoreboard (5-0). Scrumhalf Nessckeenth Jansen missed the conversion. Prop Faisal-lee Tjivava added a second try for the Bokkies (10-5). Jansen missed the conversion.
Flyhalf Kaurirongua Munganda opened the account on behalf of Unam (10-5). Openside flanker Veripamue Kamburona added the conversion (10-7). Replacement Yashmine Abdulkarim scored a second try for Unam (12-10). Kamburona added the conversion (14-10) and ensured a four points lead for the visitors at halftime.
Munganda crashed over for the only points in the second half (19-10). Kamburona missed the conversion.
First League action
The Kudu Rugby Club third team defeated the defending NRU first league champions Sparta II with 31-13. It was the first time that both sides took to the field for this season.
Blindside flanker Virgil Bampton was the star performer for Kudus. He opened the scoring with a try (the first of three he scored in the match) for Kudus (5-0). Flyhalf Brandon Seister missed the conversion. Inside centre Niel Grimbeek then crashed over for Sparta (5-5). Fly-half Manuel Daniels added the conversion (7-5) and handed Sparta a two points lead.
This lead was short-lived, as Bampton restored the Kudus' lead with a second try (10-7). Seister added the conversion (12-7). Outside centre Daniel Jeneke extended the Kudus' lead with a try (17-7). Seister missed the conversion. Daniels converted a penalty for Sparta (17-10) before halftime.
Daniels then converted another penalty for Sparta (17-13) when play resumed. Inside centre Ulriato Lawrence hit back with a try for Kudus which he also converted (24-13) before halftime.
Bampton crashed over for his third and last try of the match (29-13). This achievement and performance earned him the Kudu Rugby Club player of the day award. Lawrence added the conversion and made the final score 31-13 in favour of Kudus III.
Huskies vs Sparta
The Okahandja Huskies proved too much to handle for the new kids on the block, Sparta Ladies. The Huskies defeated the coastal side, who were playing their first match, with 44 points to 10.
Left wing Roberta Fabio scored the first try for the visiting Huskies (5-0). Flanker Chevonney De Klerk added the conversion (7-0). Sparta number eight Mercahndry Hendricks replied for the coastal side with a try (5-7). Openside flanker Lady Laksman missed the conversion.
Fabio crashed over for a second try. (12-5). Fullback Natalie Wilhelim scored another try for the Huskies (17-5). De Klerk added the conversion and made the score 19-5 at halftime. Sparta flyhalf Bianca Manuelle trimmed the Huskies' lead to 9 points with a try (19-10). Laksman missed the conversion.
Wing Charlise Basson scored a fourth try for the Huskies. De Klerk added the conversion to make it 25-10. De Klerk also visited the try line and converted her own try (32-10).
Fabio crashed over for her third try (37-10). De Klerk missed the conversion.
Scrumhalf Mbitjita Matuzee scored the last try in the match for the Huskies (42-10). De Klerk added the conversion and made the final score 44-10 in favour of the Okahandja Huskies.
