Host came prepared
WBPS put constant pressure on its competitors to clinch a narrow 13-11 victory against Private School Moria over the weekend.
Walvis Bay Private School (WBPS) clinched a narrow 13-11 victory over Private School Moria in an under-19 Namibia schools rugby union league game played at Naartjie Park in Walvis Bay.
The hosts came prepared, putting constant pressure on the visitors, Moria, from the onset.
Fly half Michael Koopman missed a penalty in the 12th minute and then redeemed himself by scoring the first try for his team. Koopman intercepted a pass in front of the goalposts and dived over. He also added the conversion.
During the last 10 minutes of the first half, Moria was granted a penalty by referee Romano de Koker.
Full back Tolley Tjipute successfully converted the kick and registered the first three points for his team.
Koopman added another three right before the end of the first half, leaving the score 10-3 in favour fo WBPS.
Determined
When play resumed, Tjipute added another three points for Moria (10-6). This fuelled the visitors and they eventually managed to score their first and only try. Eighth man Andre Brand crashed over and handed the visitors a one-point lead (11-10). Tjipute missed the conversion.
WBPS were, however, determined to walk away as the winners. Koopman added another three points via a penalty and cemented victory for his team.
WBPS team caption Krynauw Bauwer said this was the final for the matric players.
"We have set the bar high and expect the learners coming in will represent the Naartjies with pride and vigour. Our next game is against Windhoek Gymnasium, and hopefully we can score a win and secure our spot in the finals."
