Warriors confront Eswatini

Group A wide open
Namibia's senior national team coach, Collin Benjamin, is adamant that there is still more to play for in the Cosafa Cup competition after his side hosts Eswatini on Saturday.

The Brave Warriors will go into Saturday’s Cosafa clash against Eswatini desperately in need of three points in order to bolster their chances of advancing from the group stage.

Namibia goes into the match in second place after playing to a 1-1 stalemate against South Africa in their opener on Wednesday.

Brave Warriors coach Collin Benjamin is fully aware that they need a result against Lesotho.

"I still believe that this is a tournament, and it was good that we did not get out of the first match with no points.

"I think it is wide open and a tough group, and that is why I am happy we could get a point in the first match," he said yesterday.

Benjamin added: "We will go back to the drawing board and rectify any mistakes in order to get better in our match against Eswatini and Botswana."

A lot to play for

The Brave Warriors, however, are currently level on points with South Africa, making the match against Eswatini crucial.

Eswatini, on the other hand, will be well aware that a defeat for them and a victory for South Africa in the match against Botswana will automatically rule out any progress.

The fact that the match between South Africa and Botswana will be played earlier in the day will give an indication of what is required in their game against Namibia.

A draw between South Africa and Botswana and a draw between Namibia and Eswatini on the same day will blow the group wide open.

A win for Botswana will be enough to take them out of the group stages, leaving the remaining three teams to fight for the second spot.

Wednesday’s match result

Elmo Kambindu's first-half 43rd-minute header was cancelled out by Rowan Human's goal three minutes into the second half. The result meant that both teams are two points behind Botswana, who managed a 1-0 victory over Eswatini earlier on.

This weekend’s Cosafa Cup matches will all be played at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban.
