Agribank triumphs in CVSL with unbeaten streak

After four months of competitive volleyball, the Corporate Volleyball Social League (CVSL) concluded this past weekend at the Independence Stadium in Windhoek. The competition saw the Agribank team clinch the overall title with an outstanding back-to-back winning streak in all 27 games of the league.

In addition to bragging rights, Agribank secured a floating trophy, gold medals and N$6 000 prize money. The runners-up got N$5 000 and N$4 000 in prize money, as well as silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Team of the Season trophy for the most disciplined and punctual team was awarded to Khevare Action Captial Investment (KACI). The awards were officiated by the newly elected Namibia Volleyball Federation (NVF) president, Tobias Mwatelulo.

Having stayed in the top three for the past five seasons, Agribank this season achieved comeback victories and clutch performances from individual players to maintain their unbeaten record and secure a comfortable lead.

Top three winners

Agribank raked in 81 points, ahead of runners-up Team Juxta with 75 and third-placed Namibia Airports Company (NAC) also with 75 points, separated only on technicalities.

Agribank team captain Martie Mushaukwa said: “Seeing our team finally win the league after five seasons of finishing in either second or third place meant a lot to us. Key moments that led to our championship included our comeback victories, our winning streak and the decisive championship game where we beat Team Juxta 2-0.”

League organiser and KACI Managing Director, Albert Khevare, said the league is a great opportunity for team building for employees from various entities. “As the saying goes, healthy employees are productive employees. This competition is a testament to our dedication and commitment to this cause of togetherness,” he said.

He added that the 12th season will kick off in March 2025. Before that, state-owned enterprises, government ministries and private companies will gear up for the upcoming Corporate Sports Carnival, sponsored by Roads Authority and KACI at the University of Namibia’s (Unam) main campus in November.
