Muscleman and fitness fanatic Evaristor Gylgrister has been appointed president of the World Fitness Federation (WFF) Namibia and is now working on affiliating the federation with relevant organisations.

The 39-year-old’s appointment followed shortly after the WFF’s African League Pro Championship, which was hosted in Lusaka, Zambia, in December. It comes at a pivotal time for fitness in Namibia, with a growing interest in health and wellness among the population.

Gylgrister intends to implement initiatives that will nurture local talent and promote health and fitness across the nation. His plans include organising local competitions, workshops, and training programmes aimed at inspiring and empowering aspiring athletes. “We want to create a culture of fitness in Namibia, where everyone feels encouraged to pursue their health and wellness goals. I intend to make a meaningful impact on our community by promoting fitness as a way of life for all Namibians. The WFF Namibia platform will strengthen its presence on the African fitness landscape and build connections with other nations in pursuit of excellence in the sport,” he emphasised.

Highly Competitive

Gylgrister entered the fitness scene over a decade ago as a bodybuilder and draws inspiration from Jackson Dexter, the Mr. Olympia 2008 title winner.

The bodybuilder, who resides in Walvis Bay, joined 84 athletes from nine African nations at the WFF’s African League Pro Championship, where he achieved an impressive fourth place in his category. “This year, I’m focused on competing in the Pro Am WFF Universe Malaysia on 12 October 2025, at the Mega Star Arena in Kuala Lumpur,” he said.

At the event, Gylgrister also engaged in discussions with presidents of various WFF member countries. These conversations centred around the future of fitness in Africa, the importance of collaboration, and the potential for growth within the sport.
