Central Open title goes to Nande

The Central Open is one of the Namibia Amateur Golf Union's annual order of merit events.

The Windhoek Golf Club hosted the prestigeous 2024 ABInBev Central Open last weekend, won by Namibia’s number one ranked amateur Likius Nande by six shots ahead of Stefanus Bonifatius.

Players in the A and B divisions played 54 holes over two days (36 and 18), whereas the C and stableford divisions only played 36 holes, 18 per day.

Seventy-six players participated in total, twenty each in the A and B divisions respectively, 26 in the C division and 10 in the stableford division.

Players came from Walvis Bay (7), Swakopmund (3), Tsumeb (2), Grootfontein (7), Oshakati (3), Mariental (2), Omeya (6) and Windhoek (46) to participate in this well-respected event which counts towards the Namibia Amateur Golf Union’s order of merit.

Overall best gross: 1 Likius Nande (74, 73, 70, 217), 2 Stefanus Bonifatius (75, 77, 71, 223).

Overall best nett: 1 Laban Malule (73, 71, 73, 217), 2 Christopher Durant (77, 72, 69, 218).

A division best gross: 1 Edwin Kutara (77, 74, 72, 223), 2 Charles Lohmann (77, 73, 75, 225).

A division best nett: 1 Edwin Geinub (73, 73, 72, 218), 2 Walter Heibeb (73, 75, 72, 220).

B division best gross: 1 John Tsauseb (76, 80, 87, 243), 2 Lukas Steven (82, 85, 84, 251).

B division best nett: 1 Joseph Martin (73, 75, 70, 218), 2 Alfie Ndyenge (76, 73, 70, 219).

C division best gross: 1 Elvin Kamana (88, 88, 176). 2 Melt van Schoor (86, 90, 176).

C division best nett: 1 Duke Beukes (74, 70, 144). 2 Raymond van Zyl (67, 78, 145).

Stableford division (total nett points): 1 Tiaan Grobler (70), 2 Cornelis Beuke (68), 3 Johan Grobler (67).

Mr. Toady Gurirab, president of NAGU, thanked the WGCC management and golf committees and all staff in organising this event.

WG&CC thanked ABInBev, represented by Chantelle Tap, for the sponsorship.

The club captain Gustav Jung thanked all participants for their support, as well as everyone that helped with arrangements, including the kitchen and bar staff, the greenkeepers team, the Proshop, the starters Trevor Britten and Ester Emvula, as well as tournament referee Joe Nawanga.

• On Saturday 16 March, the club will host the first of four qualifying rounds of the King Price International Pairs.
