Chula Chula wants to ‘hurt’ Stars

Northern-based football team Eeshoke Chula Chula is willing to break the hearts of African Stars and “hurt” them throughout the entire season, team manager Mikka Hamatundu says.
The team travels all the way from the Oshana region to come and battle African Stars in the 10th and final Hage Geingob Cup at Windhoek’s Independence Stadium on Saturday.
Chula Chula are oozing with confidence, given that they managed to beat African Stars 1-0 the last time the two teams met in this competition.
“Things are going very well in training and one can just say that the team is ready to put up a good performance on Saturday.
“We lost a few players during the transfer window but we have also acquired a few important players in the process.
“As a team we want to hurt African Stars throughout this entire season, starting with the Saturday match,” Hamatundu said.
The team manager revealed that the team is only likely to travel to Windhoek on Friday due to financial constraints.
He however is confident that the team’s faithful fans will fill up the stadium and make the atmosphere electric, as they always do.
“We have plans to come with supporters from this side while also believing that many of them that are in the capital and other towns will come to support the team.
“All we can ask for now is for our fans to make sure that they carry the team on Saturday like they always have,” Hamatundu said.
League ambitions
The club further proclaimed their ambition of winning the Debmarine Namibia Premiership this coming season.
Chula Chula gained promotion last season and they performed consistently to finish in fifth spot in a season African Stars were crowned back-to-back champions.
The northern team won 12 matches, while losing eight, with 10 draws in their first-ever topflight season.
Hamatundu believes there is no time for the club to keep their tails between the legs, but to push for a fairytale.
“Like I said, we want to hurt African Stars and there will be nothing better than taking the league title from them.
“As a football club, we have realised that we do have the potential to go all the way and gain the ultimate league prize.
“We are not going to make things easy for any club that comes up against us this season and that is a promise,” Hamatundu added.
Three matches
The Hage Geingob Cup will feature three football matches, with African Stars facing last year’s Hage Geingob Cup winners Eeshoke Chula Chula in the main event.
In a women’s match, FNB WSL title holders Ongos Ladies will compete against their nearest rival Girls & Goals.
The winners of the men’s match will receive N$300 000, while the runners-up will take home N$150 000. In the women’s match, the winners will be awarded N$200 000, and the runners-up N$100 000.
Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Geingob family to support the establishment of the Dr Hage Geingob Memorial Library.
The day will kick off with an exhibition match between Omake Celebrities and Danger Point Celebrities – also featuring an entertaining program of musical performances.
Tickets are sold at N$30 on Webtickets or at Pick n Pay stores nationwide.
