Okahandja United coach Richard Gariseb has heaped praise on his players following their 2-1 win over Okahandja United in Saturday’s Debmarine Namibia Premier League match.

Gariseb pointed out his team's energy and fighting spirit when they came up against a formidable team at the Unam Stadium.

“This was indeed a great result for us against a team that was playing at home.

“I am very happy with how the players responded after going one goal down in the first half.

“They responded well and managed to grab a goal back in the dying minutes of the match,” Gariseb said.

Team captain Erasmus Ikeinge put Khomas Nampol in the lead just before the interval.

However, Okahandja United however pushed back strongly, with Chris Haoseb and Tjipenandjambi Tjaverua earning the visitors three points with two crucial goals.

“The rest days we had after exiting the MTC Maris Cup gave us enough room to ensure that our players freshen up.

“The double headers (two fixtures per weekend) are a problem, because you hardly can hardly put out the same energy twice, but we hope the team will build on some momentum going forward,” Gariseb added.

Khomas Nampol FC coach Fortune Eichab, who entered the match with high expectations, cut a frustrating figure on the touchline.

“It is not good to lose. We gave the match away, because we paid for our mistakes.

“It was a bad day at the office, but we will continue working towards progress.”

Mixed fortunes

In Rundu, goals by Riouua Kamutuezu, Nikolas Haikali, Punaije Katjimune and Engilio Goagoseb secured a 4-1 victory for Ongos FC over Cuca Tops.

The match between Julinho Athletics and Tigers FC ended as a 0-0 stalemate at the Rundu Sports Field.

Ongos, who have been tipped as strong title contenders following some off-season acquisitions, proved why they are considered one of the most talented team in the Premiership.

Coastal side Blue Boys beat Bucks Buccaneers 1-0 at the Kuisebmund Stadium.

Blue Waters FC and Unam FC only managed a 1-1 draw against each other, while Young Brazilians and Mighty Gunners played to a 1-1 stalemate at Keetmanshoop.

King Kauluma Palace delivered a brave performance on Saturday holding the in form Young African FC at the Oshakati Independence Stadium.

The last Saturday result was the anticipated clash between rivals Eeshoke Chula Chula and African Stars at Oshakati.

Ten-men African Stars left it late in the second half to beat Chula Chula 2-0 as both strikes came in the last six minutes.

Vitapi Ngaruka (84 minutes) and Mbakondja Tjahikika (penalty, 87 minutes) scored for the visitors, who survived the second-half red card shown to Uda Kambanda.

Following last week’s resignation of coach Ronny Kanalelo, the defending title holders African Stars once again proved that they should never be ruled out.

Team captain Ronald Ketjijere admitted that their overall discipline could have been tighter. “Adding these three points away from home is a very good result for us. Refereeing is always giving us problems, but I also think we should have behaved better under the circumstances.”
