Novice rhythmic gymnasts put their skills to the test at the national championships.
The recently concluded Namibian Gymnastics Federation’s (NGF) novice rhythmic gymnastics national championships, hosted by Windhoek Rhythmic Club, saw Annabel Oosthuizen from Elite Rhythmic crowned champion of the level 3 category to clinch the floating trophy.
Ava Koff of Walvis Bay Gymnastics reigned supreme at level 2, with Meivy Mateus of Walvis Bay Gymnastics winning the level 1 category.
The event brought together over 250 novice rhythmic gymnasts from across the country, who showcased their grace and precision in pursuit of top honours and the opportunity to advance to the intermediate level.
The participating clubs included Parkies Rhythmic Gymnastics, Tsumeb Gymnastics, Windhoek Rhythmic Gymnastics, Infinity Rhythmic Gymnastics, Atlantic Gymnastics, Oceanview Rhythmic Gymnastics and Elite Rhythmic Gymnastics.
Britt Adonis-Byl, one of the event’s organisers, expressed satisfaction with the event, highlighting its importance in determining which gymnasts advance to the next level.
She explained that level 1, where gymnasts perform routines with the rope and free dance, serves as the entry level for the youngest participants in the sport. The hoops, clubs and ribbon elements are additions during the more advanced levels.
• The NGF’s senior national championship for levels 4 to Senior Olympic level will be hosted today and Saturday by Infinity Rhythmic Gymnastics at Walvis Bay Indoor Sports Complex.
