The Debmarine Namibia Premiership giants avoided potentially embarrassing exits against lower ranked opposition in the PstBet NFA Cup to progress to the round of 16.

Civics FC showed Swakopmund FC that they still are a bigger force, by beating them 5-0 at the Unam Stadium on Saturday.

A brace by John Gassonu and goals from Romario //Uiseb, Rivaldo Gawanab and Maandero Muusuo was enough to send the Civilians through to the round of 16.

Civics coach Jerry Zimmer lauded his players for a professional display.

“It was a good victory for us and we are proud to be in the round of 16. Our players have the desire to go far in this competition even though we expect bigger challenges going forward.

“We just have to remain focus and play our football,” Zimmer said.

Into double digits

Unam FC handed out a punishing result of 13-0 to northern visitors LK United FC.

The impressive Roberto Rugam of Unam scored seven of the 13 goals on the day. Rugam was also his club’s top scorer with 10 in the recently competed Premier League. With Saturday’s haul he has taken the lead from Julinho Sporting’s Mapenzi Muwanei, who racked up four goals in the previous round.

Isador Jager, Vihamisa Sirririka, Tyrese Hikupembe and Paulus Hamutenya were also on the scoresheet for the student team.

LK United only strikes were own goals under pressure, conceded by John Sikakure and Richard Kativa.

• At the Omulunga Stadium in Grootfontein, Orlando Pirates progressed to the next round after a 3-0 win over lower division side Sunrise FC.

Oryza Savita progressed to the round of 16 after a 4-2 win on penalties over the Gerros Uri-Khob Academy, following a 1-1 draw in regular time.

On behalf of the sponsors, PstBet founder Steve Hamunyela was pleased with how the action unfolded so far.

“We expected nothing less from the teams and this was great entertainment.

“As a brand, we are proud that the teams and players are determined to deliver,” Hamunyela said.
