Namibia's roaring lions
The action at the Africa Fight League Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Extravaganza on Saturday night at the Sport Klub Windhoek in Olympia, had the packed hall and spectators on their feet.
The competition, which was presented by Sousa MMA Studio in Windhoek, served up nine exciting fights for the enthusiastic spectators.
Four Namibian fighters did not disappoint their fans. In the main fight, Veja Hinda, in the featherweight division, stopped Ndombe Poe from Angola in the first round with a technical knockout, while Geraldo Bok in the main preliminary fight defeated Leonardo Pascal (Angola) in the first round with a choke hold.
Arno Jacobs' attack against Jonathan Bana of Zambia was equally impressive with a quick knockout in the first round. Damian Muller did his job well, but was beaten on points by Chomba Mwandila from Zambia over three rounds.
Not unnerved
Hinda told Sport Wrap: "Thank you very much to everyone who came to watch. Although I knew nothing about my opponent, I expected more from him. My victory in the first round is a good indication of how well we are prepared.
"He threw some good shots, but that didn't unnerve me. With the spectators behind me, I just stayed calm and knew that after I checked him out, I could take the fight down in the first round.
"I'm actually a bantamweight, but tonight I fought in the featherweight division. We are now going to rest a bit and then we will start preparing for the MMA World Championship, which will be held at the beginning of January next year in Abu Dhabi.
"I'm eager to start training again. The World Championship is an opportunity of a lifetime, and I cannot waste it."
