New chapter for emerging leaders
Cricket
A few weeks ago marked the first phase of the Namibia Sports and Leadership Centre (NSLC) in the capital.
This innovative multi-sport initiative aims to support the country’s most promising young athletes, empowering them to excel in both their sports and academics.
Parents and students joined Cricket Namibia in taking the first step on this exciting journey, filled with promise and opportunity. The enthusiasm displayed by all involved set the tone for what promises to be a transformative experience.
Cricket Namibia stated: “As we work towards the official opening in April, we look forward to building a foundation that inspires excellence. Together, we are shaping future leaders and athletes for Namibia.
“Stay tuned! We’ll soon announce the date for an open invitation to parents to join an information-sharing session with Hawie Engels.”
The NSLC will be managed by Hawie Engels, a renowned leader in education, personal development, and elite sports. Engels represented Namibia at both junior and senior levels in rugby and athletics. He served as the principal of Windhoek High School from 2011 until 2022. His career also includes commercial training, team building, mentorship programs, and motivational speaking.
Engels’ extensive experience will help shape the NSLC’s unique offering and high-performance culture, emphasizing a balanced focus on athletic growth, academic achievement, and mental well-being.
A new chapter in Namibia’s sports development is set to begin with the launch of the NSLC at the FNB Namibia Cricket Ground. With the goal of becoming a leading hub for talent development, the NSLC is dedicated to fostering Namibia’s youth, helping them reach their full potential on both national and international stages.
The NSLC will cater to students from Grade 8 to Grade 12, following an online education model. A holistic approach will combine athlete development and academic rigor with intensive sports training and leadership development.
The daily schedule will balance these elements, ensuring that each athlete receives the well-rounded support they need to succeed. While schedules will vary by grade, they will generally include sports-specific practice, structured academic sessions under supervision, gym and other sports services, as well as leadership development. This will be complemented by team participation at schools or clubs of preference.
Various online learning service providers can be selected for the CAPS, Cambridge, and IEB curricula.
Service providers for these curricula typically include:
CAPS curriculum through Teneo School (teneoschool.co.za)
Cambridge curriculum through Cambrilearn (cambrilearn.com)
IEB curriculum through Brainline (brainline.com)
