Omatako Oval is ... just unique

Cricket
Cricket Namibia’s new national stadium in Olympia is not the only brand new facility coming to fruition for the sport. The Erasmus family farm, in the area of Erindi Private Game Reserve, earlier this month held the official opening of the Omatako Oval and Cricket Academy.

The national men’s team captain Gerhard Erasmus recently spoke about this development as a guest on NTV’s weekly Friday sports and braai show Gooi Kole.

“It has always been a dream of myself and my father (Francois, former Cricket Namibia chairman and former Eagles team manager) to establish this cricket field.

“It took three years of diligence and slow, hard work, to get the grass field going, but now we have both a turf pitch and a synthetic pitch The field is available for club matches and community projects. The game farm and the view of the Omatako mountains contributes to make a special weekend for cricketers.

“On our opening occasion, we had the Oppenheimer XI from Johannesburg as guests, playing two matches on a weekend against a selection of mostly retired Namibian cricket legends.”
