Pedal Power: Steenkamp, Abraham emerge victorious

Preparation for road cycling championships
The Nedbank Windhoek Pedal Power road series took place at Teufelsschlucht, north of Windhoek, yesterday.

Anneke Steenkamp and Daniel Abraham yesterday morning won the elite women's and men's race of the Nedbank Windhoek Pedal Power road series at Teufelsschlucht north of Windhoek.

Silke Bean and Nicole Spangenberg followed hot on Steenkamp’s heels in second and third place. Kevin Lowe won the sprint to the finish line against Drikus Coetzee to take snatch up place.

This was the second road race in a week for racing cycles and mountain bikes in preparation for the upcoming national road cycling championships this Friday and Sunday near the capital.

On Friday afternoon, the individual time trial for each category will be held, with Saturday set aside as a rest day. On Sunday morning, cyclists will tackle the road race, competing for national colours in the international cycling union's categories. They are: Elite men and women, under-23 men and women as well as junior men and women.
