Plenty of youngsters at RMB Off-road Triathlon

The 2024 RMB Off-road Triathlon took place at Lake Oanob last Sunday, leaving participants and spectators alike exhilarated.

This is the 17th year that OTB Sport has hosted the Off-Road triathlon.

Participants could choose between the Enduro (1.1 km swim/28 km bike / 8 km run), Sprint (600 m swim / 15 km bike / 4 km run) and the Super Sprint (300 m swim / 4 km bike / 2 km run). Participants could compete as individuals, or in teams.

The Enduro male event was won by Andrew Rowles in 2 hours 12 minutes 54 seconds. Overall second and winner of the elite age category was Jan-Louis Mostert in 2:14:33. Third overall and second in the veteran age category was John Valentin in 2:18:56.

Lelani Swart won the Enduro female category.

The Sprint distance was won by the predicted favourite, Nathan Chase, in 58:53. Chase is in top form and recently won the bronze medal in the men’s 16-17 age group at the XTERRA Youth World Championship held in northern Italy. Second overall was Nathan's younger brother, Micah Chase, in 1:04:34. Ethan Brinkmann took third overall position in 1:08:02.

The female Sprint was won by Sonja Obholzer in 1:21:06. Sonja was also the winner of the female veteran age category. Second overall was Lillian Kibble (1:28:01) who was first of the 16-and-under female age category. Third overall in 1:28:45 was Lara Voss, the first of the elite age category.

The veteran male Sprint category was won by Thilo Thum in 1:18:44. The master female and male categories were won by Nicole Botha and Bernd Esslinger respectively.

The overall winner of the Super Sprint was Emma Brinkmann in 37:53. Aiden Dieh was overall winner of the male Super Sprint category in 39:18.

Organisers OTB Sport said they were very pleased with the turnout, especially in the number of youngsters taking part. OTB thanked RMB for its generous and invaluable support of triathlon in Namibia, and for the sponsorship of the RMB Off-road Triathlon in specific, which it has sponsored for the last five years. RMB's sponsorship has allowed the sport to grow and flourish, producing Namibia triathletes of world-class calibre.
