Pointbreak Open Water Swim celebrates 18 years

The annual Pointbreak Open Water Swim will take place this weekend at Lake Oanob Resort. This is the 18th year celebration. OTB Sport, the event organisers, said participants can choose between different distances. On Sunday there is a 800 metre swim and a 2.1 km swim. Endurance swimmers can also partake in the 5 km Adventure swim, which was introduced in 2021 and takes place Saturday morning. The current dam level is low, around 34%, consequently the 5 km route has to be altered slightly and it will not start as far northwest as usual. The Pointbreak Open Water Swim attracts a range of participants, from Namibia's top swimmers, to recreational swimmers. Around 200 swimmers are expected across the different distances. Participants range in age from 3 years (kids fun event) to 70 years. Young kids participate in the fun event with family or parents. Kids can make use of any flotation device and assistance. This event generates a huge amount of excitement and also encourages young kids to get used to open water swimming.For 2025, the Pointbreak Challenge has been introduced. This is when a swimmer partakes in all three distances – 5 km, 2.1 km and 800m. Online entries have closed. Participants who have pre-entered, will not be charged entry fee to Oanob Resort. Non-participants will be charged Oanob Resorts’ usual entry fee.OTB Sport expressed its appreciation to Pointbreak for 18 years of sponsorship, and invaluable contribution to open water swimming in Namibia.OTB Sport also thanked Lake Oanob Resort for their generous assistance and support in hosting the event over all the years.
