The settlement of Groot Aub, 50km south of Windhoek, will be hosting the Queensab Soccer Bonanza from 30 to 31 July, with teams across Namibia set to vie for the prizes on offer during the event.
The Queensab Soccer Bonanza will be held for the fifth time and is aimed at providing a platform to footballers to showcase their talents and prepare for the upcoming local Namibian Football Premier League and lower leagues.
In preparation for the tournament, organiser Rhonie Rhuuksie Garoeb said: "Since the domestic league of Namibia has been idle for a while it is a good opportunity for players to gain match fitness in anticipation of the resumption of organised football in the country.
"I’m calling on all coaches from all three divisions in the country to come and scout for talent,” he added.
Defending champs
Tuk-Tuk United are the defending champions and vow to retain the title.
Other winners are Dates Eleven from Keetmanshoop, who won the 2018 inaugural edition, followed by Young Generation from Windhoek, who won in 2019.
The tournament is open for all teams. Vendors can sell food by renting stalls for N$400 per stall inside the field for two days, and N$250 for stalls located outside the field.
Alcohol will be sold by the organisers only. Conventional games such as Blikkie Leeg Maak, Tug-of-War and Dominoes are also part of the tournament. Registration fees for the games are N$150 with Blikkie Leeg Maak and Tug-of-war consisting of four members, while the Dominoes will consist of two partners.
Each winner will receive N$200 and a 24-pack of beer or cooldrink.
The draw will take place on 29 July at 17:00 at Zebra Pre-Primary school. Only teams that have paid the registration fee will be part of the draw. The winner is expected to walk away with N$25 000, a trophy and 20 gold medals. The runner-up will take N$15 000 and silver medals. Semi-final winners will take home N$5 000 each.
Finalists will receive a new soccer kit courtesy of JJF Investment. The entrance fee at the gate is N$20 per person and N$10 per vehicle.
