Runners excited for Vivo Energy's dice
Road running
Not only former Olympians, but many inspired joggers of all ages are accommodated.
Tomorrow, Vivo Energy presents its second Windhoek City Marathon, which will be run entirely within the capital, its residential areas and city centre.
Clean water and improved sanitation, for a happier, healthier Windhoek, is the theme of this year’s race.
The new route ensures that this competition will now turn into a fully fledged marathon run on concrete surface.
In addition to the marathon (42.2 kilometres), enthusiasts have been given the opportunity to enter for the half-marathon (21.1 km), a nice 10 km route or a 5 km fun walk.
Runners for the marathon will start at 06:05 from the City of Windhoek upper parking area, while the half-marathoners kick off at 06:30. Participants in the 10 km can be at the ready at 07:00 and the fun walkers at 07:15.
The prize-giving takes place at 12:00 at the Zoo Park at the finish.
In 2023 Enock Haufiku took the marathon honours in 2 hours 34 minutes 40 seconds, comfortably ahead of former Olympian Mynhardt Kauanivi (2:54:30) and Elia Simeon (2:58:04).
In the women’s race, Alina Armas (2:48:58), Ottilie Aimwata (2:59:23) and Beata Naigambo 3:01:44 secured the three top places. Armas and Naigambo have previously represented Namibia at the Olympic Games.
The half-marathon’s defending champions are (men) 1 Jeremia Shaliaxwe (1:09:24), 2 Nghilyeendele Ndahangwanasho (1:12:10), 3 Jason Wedeipo (1:15:04) and (women) 1 Leena Ekandjo (1:29:00), 2 Ivonne Shelikita (1:30:32), 3 Lucia Andrek (1:30:35).
