Setback to Amavila’s ambitions
Boxing
Paulus Amavila’s unbeaten record as a professional boxer was spoiled on Thursday night when he was beaten by majority decision by Bryan Fanga of Cameroon.
The vacant IBF Africa super lightweight belt was on the line as the Namibian took on the Swiss-based Cameroonian in his own backyard in Geneva.
After ten closely-fought rounds, judge Jerome Lades (France) scored the fight as a draw at 95-95.
However, Vincent Dupas (France) and Bayasgalan Sandag (Germany) had Fanga narrowly ahead by 96-94 and 97-93, respectively.
Fanga’s professional record now stands at 10 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw, while Amavila’s is 9-1-1.
Amavila, fighting under the banner of MTC Nestor Sunshine Promotions, won the Namibian super lightweight title in March last year with an eighth round technical knockout victory over Eslon Kalus, and has successfully defended the title twice.
