Shake-up in Mauritius results
Sevens rugby
Referee Zaid Isaacs provided the only Namibian presence at the Rugby Africa Men’s 7s tournament in Mauritius last weekend.
The tournament, contested between twelve teams, saw a number of unexpected results, particularly the losses for perennial dominant forces South Africa and Kenya – neither of whom made the final.
The South African team’s semi-final loss by 0-12 to Uganda condemned them to the bronze final, where they overcame Burkina Faso 35-7.
Kenya lost a pool match to Madagascar (5-7) on day one and had to be content with losing their last playoff to Zimbabwe 28-19 and finish in sixth place.
The tournament’s final standings: 1 Uganda / 2 Madagascar / 3 South Africa / 4 Burkina Faso / 5 Zimbabwe / 6 Kenya / 7 Ivory Coast / 8 Mauritius / 9 Zambia / 10 Nigeria / 11 Tunisia / 12 Algeria.
