Sparta pockets win against Kudus
Sparta II defeated Kudus III 16–9 in a Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) first division league match at Jan Wilken Stadium on Saturday.
Although Kudus III registered the first points through a penalty kick by flyhalf Brandon Seister, Sparta II took full advantage of the gaps in their opponent’s defence. Seister was the only points scorer for the Kudus. He converted another two penalty kicks.
Sparta II scored a try in the first half of the game and then cemented the deal in the match’s final minutes. The try scorers were fullback Lionel Coetzee and prop Wani Mouton. Both tries were not converted, while outside centre Mano Daniels added two penalty kicks.
Sparta captain Nielen Farmer said the win was a great and important victory for them. “From here on we can only build on what we’ve achieved today. It gave us a very necessary confidence boost.”
Prior to the first division game, the Kudu Bokkies and Okahandja Huskies also clashed. The visitors from Okahandja had to return home empty-handed. Kudus won the match 27-0.
The try scorers for the day were national team players Faisel-lee Tjivava (prop) and Tammy-Lee Roodt (second row). Emilyn Marais (second row), Ernistine Gom-Khaises (number 8) and Zenobia van Wyk (flyhalf) also visited the chalked line. Flanker Nessckeenett Jansen converted one of the five tries scored by Kudus.
