Sporting community appreciates Nujoma's legacy
Tributes
Individuals and teams that represent Namibia on the international sports arena since 1990, as well as fans, are indebted to the legacy of the late statesman.
Boxing promoter Nestor Tobias were among the country’s prominent sports figures to express their deepest condolences following the news of the passing of Namibia’s Founding President on Sunday.
“It is with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of the Founding President of the Republic of Namibia.
“Dr. Sam Shafishuna Nujoma was a selfless leader who was deeply committed to the well-being of his people. The Founding Father was a man of compassion and generosity, always ensuring that those around him were taken care of.
“Even when he was busy with national duties of his office, he made sure he had time to reach out to me and always spared time to listen when i called his office.
“The Founding Father always accepted our courtesy visits and also went on to become the patron of the MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing Academy stables boxing academy since 2003.
“He also regularly invited my boxers to State House, providing them with the support and encouragement they needed to succeed. It is truly a great loss for Namibia, Africa, and the entire world at large.”
