Week full of highlights at Interhigh
School sports
A schedule in various sports will test the two traditional rivals.
The annual interhigh between Windhoek High School and this year’s hosts Windhoek Gymnasium is underway and will be a source of quality entertainment in a host of different sports events.
A highlight on today’s programme will be the Old Scholars cricket match that will feature some truly world-class players on both sides, who were in action for the Richelieu Eagles at the two previous editions of the T20 World Cup and will take on the best on the planet again soon at the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup in June in West Indies.
The two cricket teams, strictly selected from old scholars:
Windhoek Gymnasium Old Boys: Michau du Preez (captain), Bester Ferreira, JW Visagie, Dewald le Grange, Eben van Wyk, Francois Botes, Izanco van Niekerk, Tiaan Snyman, Simon Celliers, Sylvester Murangi, Lu-Hendro de Waal.
WHS Old Boys: Nicolaas Scholtz (captain), Gerhard Erasmus, Malan Kruger, Wilhelm Schultz, Handre Klazinga, Tiaan Louw, Schalk Willem Pienaar, JJ Smit, Stefan Short, Zane Green, Bernard Scholtz, Geo Haasbroek, Collin Schoombe.
Tuesday’s programme got underway with the traditional group photo of the sports captains, principals and mascots of both schools, before the official opening and welcoming in the school hall. An art exhibition, choir and a capella singing, debating, quiz competition, public speaking, poetry and drama also formed part of yesterday’s competition programme.
