The Katutura Football for Hope Centre fence was officially unveiled on Friday in an event which saw the public officially introduced to the new renovations.
The aim of the fencing was to ensure that the centre is brought back to its greatness.
Athletes from different clubs graced the event with their presence and competed in different sport codes.
“The Special Olympics kids can now come back and have loads of fun and practice at the centre,” Special Olympics athlete Tom Elina Adams said.
Moreson Special School, Dagbreek School for the intellectually impaired’, Namutoni Primary School and the Namibia’s Girls Football Team were represented by the athletes.
Some women’s football team members were present to help select a squad that will be prepared to participate at the 2022 Special Olympics Unified Cup in Detroit, USA.
This is the second football tournament set to take place from 31 July to 22 August.
The captain of the Namibian girls' football team said: “This is also an opportunity for the girls to go and show off their talent in Detroit.
“The Katutura Football for Hope centre has been fenced as well and due to that the ladies will be able to come and play and feel secure when doing so without the fear of being attacked.”
Namibia will only be sending a girls' team given that the boy’s team failed to qualify for the tournament.
