Battle for survival continues
'Destiny in our hands'
Clubs at the bottom of the Debmarine Premiership are doing everything not to get relegated.
Although African Stars have already been crowned the Debmarine Premiership Champions for the 2022–2023 season, the battle for survival in the league continues.
Citizens FC are glued to the bottom of the table as they lost 3-0 to Eleven Arrows FC on Saturday, while Black Africa, who are also fighting for survival in the league, had to settle for a point against Julinho FC as they drew 1-1.
Black Africa head coach Brian Isaacs was not happy with his team’s performance. "I’m very disappointed with the results; it was a must-win game for us, and we needed the three points. We have to win our last game and pray the other results go in our favour," he said.
Focus on winning
Julinho FC, who are also fighting to stay in the league, have two games in hand, which if they win, means they do not get relegated.
After the match against Black Africa, Nelson Luis said: "We were a bit unlucky to concede such an early goal, but eventually we got the equaliser. We wanted three points, but we have to settle for the draw."
He added: "We just needed two points, and we’ll be fine, but we will try winning the remainder of the games."
The Julinho fans are not worried about relegation.
Jason Shoombe said: "We didn’t have a good season like we would have wanted, but now we just have to survive and focus on next season. We have games in hand, so our destiny is really in our hands, and I think the boys also know that. So trust me when I say we are not getting relegated."
Other results in round 28:
African Stars FC 2–1 Tura Magic FC
Orlando Pirates FC 1–0 Mighty Gunners FC
Blue Waters FC 2–1 Civics FC
UNAM FC 2 -1 Young Brazilians FC
