Bigger and better Henties Festival on the way

The upcoming event will be hosted from 25 to 26 August over the long weekend.
Plans to host the 2023 edition of the Henties Festival, which is regarded as a major financial injection for the town, are well on track.
Karel Agenbag, a member of the organizing committee, explained the idea to host a festival was initiated by a group of Henties business personalities who realized that businesses tend to experience a slowdown in June, July, and August. "They decided that something needs to be done to attract visitors and encourage business activity during these quiet periods. The group elected to organize a non-profitable festival. Nobody on the organizing committee receives any money. The funds generated are channeled towards securing top quality artists for upcoming festivals."
Without experience or funds, but with great enthusiasm, the Henties Bay Tourism Association and the whole community came together and ensured that the first festival was a huge success.
"Everything went well. The festival was well attended and we received some good feedback. We also received some ideas for the upcoming festival, which we took into consideration, and we are very excited about this event. We already received 30 applications for stalls from exhibitors and expect this number to increase significantly with the due date approaching."
The cost for a stall for the two days is N$600.00 without electricity and N$1 200.00 with electricity provided.
The main theme for the festival is angling, coupled with a good community get-together. "As with every Henties Festival, the upcoming event will be hosted from 25 to 26 August over the long weekend and the Henties Bay Angling Club angling competition will take place on Saturday 26 August. This is an angling town and there will once again be a couple of huge prizes (last year's winning fish earned its angler N$20 000) and bragging rights up for grabs for the top anglers on the day. Tickets for the competition will go for N$150.00 per angler."
The entertainment lineup includes the likes of Liz Meiring with her show Een keer 'n week is genoeg (Once a week is enough), Demi Lee Moore, Savannah Collins, Monique Jooste, Barto, Jo Nicol, and many more, with numerous disc jockeys. There will also be plenty of food and drinks with a huge variety of items on offer.
The festival grounds for this year will once again be at Henties Bay Private School in front of the entrance to Buck's Camping Lodge. The entry fees for Friday (25 August) amount to N$100.00 for adults, N$50.00 for children and persons aged 60 and older; and entry fees for Saturday are N$150.00 for adults and N$100.00 for children and persons over 60.
Due to Covid restrictions, the festival could not take place in 2020. The event returned as a mini-festival in 2021 and was once again hosted as a full festival in 2022. “We hope for a good turnout and a successful festival for 2023. Bring your family, your money and come and enjoy yourself in our beautiful town," encouraged Agenbag.
