Grumpy's fishing report
This weekend delivered some good fish with the majority of catches landed being galjoen.
It is still winter and so the trend should continue. Black mussels and white mussels did the trick. Some nice kob were also caught with the occasional steenbras and blacktail also taking the anglers bait.
Louis Fenaux got stuck into some great fish. He and a couple of friends, fished the Canopy area as well as Mile 72 and Mile 68 areas. They pretty much landed a great variety of fish which included spotted gulley sharks, smooth hound sharks, kob, steenbras, blacktail and galjoen.
The shark anglers also had some fun. Quite a number of spotted gulley sharks were taking the bait. These hard fighting fish can easily be targeted with bait such as mullet or barbel. A quick photo of the catch will suffice because all sharks caught must be released to fight another day.
The ski boat anglers are getting some young kob but fishing for them was rather tough last week. Conditions are however more favourable this week, so they should land more catches than they did for the previous week. Areas like Mile 8 and Mile 14 were the hotspots. The shallower spots gave some blacktail and the deeper angling spots delivered some kob.
Fishing conditions for the week look favourable with some warmer weather expected. Calm seas with some strongish south westerly winds today and tomorrow are predicted with maybe a hint of east wind on Friday. The warmth would be definitely welcome at the coast. Longbeach could produce some galjoen in these conditions. Let us wait and see.
With conditions looking good, areas around Henties Bay should work well. There is always a fish to be caught in areas like Grys Duintjie and Trappies. Especially galjoen and kob. For those venturing a bit further, areas like Matekus and Canopy could also produce some decent fish.
Tight lines!
