Wanderers sail past Suburbs

FNB Wanderers first team, back from a bye weekend, regained their first position and maintained their unbeaten run with another bonus-point win in Khomasdal on Saturday.
Wandererers beat FNB Western Suburbs 27-17 at Suburbs Park, after the teams were 19-19 at halftime.
Wing Nandivatu Karuuombe (2), full-back Warren Ludwig and replacement scrum-half Reben Botha scored Wanderers’ tries with kicking points coming from centres Bredell Wessels (one conversion) and DJ Holtzhausen (1 conversion, 1 penalty).
Wanderers flank Sheron Rossouw received a yellow card.
For Suburbs, Dumarcho Hartung (wing) and Justin Nel, off the bench, scored a try apiece, while scrum-half Bronwon Willemse contributed a penalty and two conversions.
• In the reserve league, Wanderers II beat Suburbs II by 26-19 for their eighth win from 12 matches, to be in second place and three points behind FNB Kudus II.
Suburbs’ points came came from Heino Kester (1 try) as well as fly-half Ricardo Swartz’s four penalties and a conversion from his educated boot.
Wanderers II’s points came tthrough tries from Corné Esterhuizen, Johan Zaayman, Innocent Kakumai and a penalty try. Esterhuizen converted twice.
UNITED BEAT FALCON
Trustco United’s 45-19 double bonus-point win, with seven tries against FNB Reho Falcon, increased the gap to ten log points between themselves in third place and fourth-placed Western Suburbs.
At Gemsbok Park, United found their pattern with irresistible phases and support play in the first half, accelerating to a 38-12 lead at half-time. Despite a much slower second half, with more errors on both sides, the Philistines were still good value for the win.
United’s try scorers were flank Feddy Mazila (2), fly-half Hanreco van Zyl, scrum-half Jahno du Plessis, nr. 8 Dean Blom, prop Hanno Husselman and replacement hooker Callie Swanepoel. Conversions were added by full-back Renier Benade (4) and Du Plessis.
Regular captain Eloff du Plessis was rested for the upcoming match against Wanderers, while a late sickness also forced United to replace prop Jano Otto.
Reho Falcon’s reply were tries by wing Enrique Husselman, scrum-half Dillon Kahman and centre Franklin Karigub, with two of them converted by Husselman.
