FENATA announces new executive team

Ellanie Smit
The Federation of Namibian Tourism Associations (FENATA) has announced the election of a new executive team who will serve from 2024 to 2026 with Ally Karaeru as the new board chairperson.

Karaerua emphasised that as reflected in the compilation of the executive committee, FENATA represents the diverse travel and tourism industry, as a voluntary organisation for Namibian tourism associations.

These associations, while representing their specialised field like travel agencies, car rentals, tour operations, emerging tourism, tour guides, hunting and accommodation, are united within FENATA to serve the interests and to act as the united voice of tourism in Namibia in respect of common matters and issues to promote and foster the sound development of sustainable tourism in the country, Karaerua said.

He added that the key functions of FENATA include lobby work for the sector with relevant stakeholders both in public and private sector, to ensure that Namibia provides a conducive environment for sustainable tourism development across the entire country.

Within FENATA, member associations have the opportunity to deal with cross-hatching issues that are relevant to the overall tourism sector, and to advise on generic destination marketing of Namibia as a travel destination of choice.

According to Karaerua key focal areas of the FENATA include accessibility to and within Namibia as destination, safety, sustainability of tourism and general economic development affecting Namibia's landscapes and environment, as well as affordability.

He said that while FENATA’s matters are dealt with in general by the board comprising two designated members of each member association to FENATA, the Executive Committee is established to deal with immediate and urgent issues and act as interface between the membership and official partners and stakeholders.

The vice chairman is Delphin Ilunga from the Tour and Safari Association of Namibia. Other members are Martin Webb-Bowen, Howard Sievertsen, Vera Salt, Nathaly Ahrens, Kenneth Kapitako, Gudrun Middendorff and Kristin Maritz.
