Tourists urged to respect Namibia
Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) has urged tourists visiting Namibia to ensure that they respect the country’s flora and fauna.
Managing director Matthias Ngwangwama made these remarks on Saturday at a national clean-up campaign day, held at Okaukuejo in the Etosha National Park.
“As we celebrate this event under the theme of 'Namibia: Healthy and clean', this cleaning campaign is not just about tidying up our environment; it is testament to our collective responsibility towards sustainability and the well-being of our community. It showcases our commitment to environmental stewardship and corporate social responsibility.”
He said by taking on the initiative, they are not only improving how the surroundings look, but are also taking a significant step towards reducing our impact on the environment while saving lives.
“As we look at the theme of this campaign, let us not forget about the importance of maintaining this momentum. Cleanliness is not a one-time effort, but an ongoing commitment.”
Ngwangwama urged everyone to continue to integrate sustainable practices into their daily routines, ensuring that our environment remains an exceptional example of cleanliness and responsibility.
The campaign sends a powerful message to all stakeholders, clients and competitors about NWR's values and dedication to excellence, he said.
"It sets us apart as an organisation that not only strives for success in the tourism industry, but also takes a proactive role in bettering our community and the environment.
“Allow me to also talk about the despicable sight of tourists recently spotted driving off-road in the Dorob National Park and, recently, tourists who were seen standing outside of their cars in the Etosha National Park. Of course, these actions have left a sour taste for those of us who are passionate about tourism.”
